Tiger Woods, the king of golf

Tiger Woods (born December 30, 1975) is an American professional golfer. He is a PGA Tour winner, a runner-up in major championships, and a holder of numerous golfing records. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers in modern history, and is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame.

He began his career as a junior, college, and amateur golfer, turning professional in 1996 at the age of 20. He won his first three PGA Tour events in late April 1997, and won the 1997 Masters for a record 12 times. His playing prowess led him to the number one spot in the official World Golf Rankings in June 1997, less than a year after turning pro.

Throughout the first decade of the 21st century, Tiger Woods dominated the game, being the world's top player from August 1999 to September 2004 (for 264 consecutive weeks) and from June 2005 to October 2010 (for 281 consecutive weeks). During that time, he won 13 major championships.

The next decade was marked by his recovery from personal problems and injuries. At the time, he was struggling to resolve marital problems with his wife, Eileen, and retired from professional golf from December 2009 to early April. Tiger Woods has admitted to multiple infidelity and the couple eventually divorced.

He fell to No. 58 in the world rankings in November 2011 before reaching No. 1 between March 2013 and May 2014. Injuries forced him to undergo four back surgeries between 2014 and 2017, and he dropped out of the world's top 1,000 golfers, competing in just one tournament between August 2015 and January 2018. When he returned to full fitness, he won his first tournament in five years at the September 2018 Tour Championships.

He has won a record 11 PGA Player of the Year awards and 15 professional major championships, and has led the world in earnings in 10 different seasons. He is also the second youngest player to win three Grand Slams, and has won 18 World Golf Championships. In May 2019, Tiger Woods became the fourth golfer to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Donald Trump.

On February 23, 2021, he was seriously injured in his right leg after being hit by a car and was hospitalized for emergency surgery. In a November 2021 interview with Golf Digest, Tiger Woods said, "My professional career is over, but I'll be back playing every year."
